How We Met

We met Jamie and Darius in December of 2016 in Cancun as we were helping Pastor Arturo and his congregation prepare the 1,000 meals that were going to be delivered that night. As the only other Americans there, they stood out to us. It was a busy night so we didn't get to talk much but we were able exchange information. The next time we were back in Cancun we got to meet up with them and learn more about their organization and the projects they were working on. They took us to the town of Cuna Maya where their Saturday kids program was in progress. It was amazing to see the commitment to the kids. Everything was organized and the kids were so happy to be a part of the program. We left with the biggest desire to be a part of what they were doing.

Jamie was born March 4, 1981 in Centre Hall, PA. He has one younger brother who is a State Policeman in Pennsylvania. Jamie got into missions (Youth With A Mission or YWAM) in 2002 in Denver, CO at the age of 20. He spent 5 years in Denver with YWAM and went on several mission trips to Venezuela, Mexico, Northwest Africa, and Western Europe. In 2007 he moved to Cancun, Mexico to help start a YWAM base. He has lived here almost 11 years working with YWAM for most of that time. Since being in Mexico, Jamie has traveled to Morocco, Cuba, Belize, and many villages in Mexico to spread the gospel.  He is married with two boys ages 6 and 2 and his wife was born and raised in Cancun.  Our focuses as a ministry are on the family and education. His hobbies are sports, going to the beach, and playing with his boys.

Darius is from Alaska, where he grew up as a son of missionaries.  Upon making a commitment to Jesus, he joined YWAM in Denver, Colorado. There, he did his DTS and later joined the staff.  While he was on staff, he went on several outreaches to Mexico. It was on these trips that he fell in love with not only the country but also Suendy.  Suendy is from Cancun and has been serving in the ministry since she was a young teen.  She worked as a translator for multiple missions’ teams and eventually did her DTS in Guadalajara, Mexico.  Since getting married in 2007, they have been serving in Cancun through various ministries.  They helped establish a ministry in Cancun known as Tree of Life Ministries, which later evolved into YWAM Cancun.

Some of the goals for 2018 that we have pledged to help YWAM Cancun reach this year are:

1. Build 2 homes in Cuna Maya and continue the “Dry Roofs, Solid Floors” and sanitation projects.

2. Raise $1,000 USD a month for our Scholarship program, and thus fully fund the education of 5 children.
